Yamaha MGP24X 24-Channel Analog Mixing Console

The Yamaha MGP24X is a 24-channel analog console with 16 microphone inputs on D-PRE preamps, a DSP Hybrid Channel section carrying three reverbs and 16 effects, X-pressive three-band EQ and one-knob compression per channel. It weighs 34.2 lbs.

Analog console, digital where it helps

The MGP24X keeps an analog signal path and adds DSP only where a digital implementation is clearly better. The Hybrid Channel section provides three types of reverb and 16 effects, along with auto-ducker and auto-leveler functions.

Auto-ducker is the feature that earns its place in installed systems: it drops music automatically when a microphone is used, which is exactly what a venue or a house of worship needs and what an operator otherwise has to do by hand every time.

Channel count and processing

Twenty four line inputs, made up of 16 mono and 4 stereo channels, with 16 microphone inputs carrying 48 V phantom power. Preamps are discrete Class-A D-PRE.

Every channel has Yamaha's X-pressive three-band equaliser and a one-knob compressor. On the effects side, REV-X supplies high resolution hall, plate and room reverbs, and the SPX processor adds 16 further effects.

Size and the larger model

The console is a little over 32 inches wide and weighs 34.2 lbs. The MGP32X is the 32-channel version, 40.4 by 22.2 inches at 42 lbs, with 24 mono channels and 24 microphone inputs.

Choose between them on input count. The processing, preamps and effects are the same on both.
