Solderable connectors from Hawk, sold in pairs, for building and repairing your own cables.

The range covers 3-pin XLR in both male and female, plus 1/4-inch TS and TRS male in silver-tip and gold-tip versions. Gold resists corrosion and is the sensible choice for patchbays and anything living in a humid room; silver is perfectly good for cables that get plugged and unplugged constantly and replaced when they wear.

Getting the type right matters more than the plating. TS is unbalanced and belongs on instrument cables. TRS is balanced and belongs between your interface and your monitors. XLR is balanced with a locking shell, which is why microphones and live runs use it.

Buying connectors instead of finished cables makes sense at two moments: when you need an odd length, and when a cable you already own has failed at the plug — which is where cables almost always fail.
