Description
The Hawk Pro HXF-S is a pair of heavy duty 3-pin XLR female cable connectors with a zinc alloy shell, silver plated contacts and chuck-type strain relief, made for building microphone and balanced line cables.
Where an XLR female goes
The female XLR is the end of a cable that plugs into a microphone, or into any output with male pins. With a male XLR at the other end, the pair of connectors makes a standard microphone cable or balanced patch lead. The three pins carry the two signal conductors of a balanced line and the shield.
Construction
The shell is zinc alloy, which survives being dropped and stood on in the way stage cables are. The insert is PA 30% GR, glass reinforced polyamide, which holds the pins in position and resists heat during soldering.
Contacts are silver plated for low resistance. Solder cups are clearly marked to speed up assembly, and a latch lock holds the connector firmly in its socket.
Strain relief
The chuck-type strain relief grips the cable jacket, so tension on the cable goes into the connector body rather than the solder joints. Most failed XLR cables fail at the joints, which makes this the feature that decides how long the finished cable lasts. The pack contains two connectors.
