Seven channels means height or width

The two channels above a 5.2 system are what enable Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, either as ceiling or upward firing height speakers or as rear surrounds in a larger room. That is the practical reason to choose the RX-A2A over the 5.2-channel RX-V4A, which handles neither format.

Amplification is a High Slew Rate design rated 100 W per channel into 8 ohms with two channels driven.

Zone 2

A stereo Zone 2 output sends a separate source to a second room at the same time as the main system runs. In a house where the same receiver has to feed a living room and a terrace or a kitchen, this is the feature that removes the need for a second amplifier.

Zone 2 output is a line level stereo pair, so the second room needs its own amplification.

Video handling

Seven HDMI inputs and one output run HDMI 2.1 with 8K at 60 Hz and 4K at 120 Hz passthrough, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, with eARC on the output. Seven inputs is a genuinely useful count: a console, a streaming box, a disc player and a set top box still leave room to grow.
