Yamaha DBR12 12" Powered Speakers

The Yamaha DBR12 is a 2-way bi-amplified powered speaker with a 12 inch cone and a 1.4 inch diaphragm compression driver, 1000 W of Class-D power and a measured maximum SPL of 131 dB at 1 metre. It weighs 15.8 kg.

Where the extra two inches go

Against the DBR10, the DBR12 gains a 12 inch cone, a larger 1.4 inch high frequency diaphragm, and a jump in amplification from 700 W to 1000 W dynamic. Measured maximum SPL rises from 129 dB to 131 dB, and the low end extends from 55 Hz down to 52 Hz.

Two decibels sounds slight. In practice it is the difference between a box that covers a small function room and one that covers a hall, because the 12 inch driver holds that output with less strain.

Amplifier and crossover

Class-D amplification is rated 1000 W dynamic, 800 W to the low frequency driver and 200 W to the high, with 465 W continuous (400 W LF, 65 W HF). The crossover is FIR-X Tuning, a linear phase FIR filter, at 2.1 kHz, and the horn gives 90 by 60 degree constant directivity coverage.

Conversion inside the DSP runs at 24 bit and 48 kHz.

Inputs and presets

Input 1 is a combo socket switchable between line and microphone, so a microphone connects without a mixer. Input 2 is a combo socket plus stereo RCA. The XLR output passes channel 1 through or sends both channels mixed to the next box.

D-CONTOUR provides FOH/MAIN and MONITOR presets, and the high pass filter offers 100 Hz or 120 Hz at 24 dB per octave for use with a subwoofer.

Size and monitor use

The plastic enclosure is 376 x 601 x 348 mm with rubber feet, weighing 15.8 kg, with two side handles, a 35 mm pole socket and rigging points. A 50 degree symmetrical monitor angle lets it work on its side as a floor wedge.

For more output again, the DBR15 uses a 15 inch driver and reaches 132 dB.
