Yamaha CHR15 2-Way 15" Passive Loudspeaker

The Yamaha CHR15 is a passive 2-way 15 inch loudspeaker in a plywood enclosure with a rotatable horn, 8 ohms, rated 250 W noise, 500 W program and 1000 W peak, with 95 dB sensitivity and 125 dB SPL peak. It weighs 22 kg.

The front of house box in the CHR range

Yamaha positions the CHR15 for front of house work, where the CHR12M and CHR15M are the floor monitor versions and the CHR10 and CHR12 suit fixed installation. The 15 inch cone on a 2.5 inch voice coil reaches 49 Hz at -10 dB, the lowest in the range.

Sensitivity is 95 dB SPL at 1 W and 1 m, with a calculated peak of 125 dB SPL.

Rotatable horn and coverage

Coverage is 90 degrees horizontal by 60 degrees vertical and the horn rotates, so the pattern can be turned when the cabinet is flown or laid on its side. The crossover is at 2.0 kHz, and the high frequency driver is a 1 inch throat compression driver with a 1.4 inch diaphragm.

Mounting and connection

Two 35 mm pole sockets are fitted in the bottom, at 0 degrees and -7 degrees. The angled socket is the useful one: tilting the box down by seven degrees on a pole aims it at seated listeners rather than over their heads.

Two parallel speakON NL4MP connectors are provided. The plywood enclosure with polyurea coating measures 432 x 692 x 405 mm and weighs 22 kg. Being passive, it needs an amplifier matched to the 500 W program rating.
