Coaxial, because it is a floor monitor

The 12 inch cone and the 1.75 inch compression driver share a single axis rather than sitting one above the other. On a wedge that is the right arrangement: a performer moves around in front of a floor monitor, and a coaxial driver keeps the tonal balance consistent as they do, because both drivers radiate from the same point.

Coverage is 90 degrees horizontal by 90 degrees vertical, which is the wide, square pattern a wedge needs. The crossover is at 1.8 kHz.

Built for the floor

The cabinet sits at a 57 degree monitor angle, aimed up at a standing performer. The enclosure is plywood with a durable black polyurea coating, at 500 x 343 x 454 mm and 15.6 kg.

Power ratings are 250 W noise, 500 W program and 1,000 W peak into 8 ohms, with 93 dB sensitivity at 1 W and 1 m and a 123 dB SPL calculated peak. Frequency range is 61 Hz to 20 kHz at -10 dB, which is appropriate for a monitor where the low end is usually rolled off anyway.

Connection and amplification

Two parallel speakON NL4MP connectors are fitted so wedges can be linked along a stage. The CHR12M is passive, so an amplifier is required, matched to the 500 W program rating rather than to the 1,000 W peak.

For front of house rather than monitor duty, the CHR15 is the 15 inch model with a rotatable horn and 125 dB SPL.
