Description
The TerraMaster TD2 is a 2-bay Thunderbolt 3 RAID enclosure for 3.5 or 2.5 inch drives and SSDs, reading at up to 760 MB/s and writing at up to 390 MB/s in RAID 0, with up to 32 TB of total storage.
RAID modes, and what each one is for
RAID 0 splits data across both drives for speed, which is how the TD2 reaches 760 MB/s read, but if either drive fails, everything is lost. RAID 1 writes the same data to both, so one drive can fail with nothing lost, at the cost of half the capacity. JBOD and Single modes treat the drives as one large or two separate volumes.
Choose RAID 1 for anything that is not backed up elsewhere.
Thunderbolt 3
The enclosure connects over Thunderbolt 3 at 40 Gb/s. Through the Thunderbolt 3 and DisplayPort connections it can also pass video to up to three displays, so it can sit in a daisy chain on a desk rather than taking a port of its own.
Cooling and build
The shell is aluminium alloy with an 80 mm fan for heat. The enclosure is supplied without drives, so capacity depends on what you install, up to 32 TB across both bays.
