Description
The TerraMaster D8 Thunderbolt 3 is an 8-bay RAID enclosure for 3.5 and 2.5 inch drives, reading at up to 1600 MB/s and writing at up to 1380 MB/s in RAID 0, with two Thunderbolt 3 ports for daisy chaining.
RAID modes
The D8 supports RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 10, JBOD and single disk. RAID 5 is the one most studios choose with eight bays: data spreads across the drives with parity, so one drive can fail with nothing lost while most of the capacity stays usable. RAID 0 gives the top speed of 1600 MB/s read but no protection.
The enclosure is supplied without drives, so capacity depends on the drives installed.
Thunderbolt 3 and daisy chaining
Two Thunderbolt 3 ports let the D8 sit in a chain of up to six compatible devices, so it does not use up a computer port of its own. A DisplayPort output passes 4K video to an external monitor.
Cooling and size
Temperature controlled fans adjust to the load, keeping eight drives cool without running at full noise all the time. The enclosure measures 266 mm high, 184 mm wide and 315 mm deep.
