Solid State Logic SSL 2+ Desktop 2x4 USB Type-C Audio Interface

The SSL 2+ is a 2x4 (2-in, 4-out) USB-C audio interface with two SSL-designed microphone preamps at 62 dB of gain, two independent headphone outputs, 5 pin DIN MIDI in and out, and the Legacy 4K switch.

Two headphone outputs that run different mixes

This is the feature that separates the SSL 2+ from the SSL 2. The two headphone outputs are independent, so a performer and an engineer can hear different mixes at the same time. Any session with two people in the room needs that, and no amount of splitting a single output achieves it.

Four balanced outputs also mean a second pair of monitors, or a send to outboard, can stay connected alongside the main pair.

Preamps and conversion

Two SSL-designed microphone preamps give 62 dB of gain, with switchable 48 V phantom power for condenser microphones. Both channels accept microphone, line or instrument level, with front panel jack sockets for the instrument inputs so a guitar plugs in from the front rather than round the back.

Conversion is 24 bit at 192 kHz.

Legacy 4K and MIDI

The Legacy 4K switch adds analog harmonic content and a high frequency lift derived from the SL 4000 console, applied on the way in. It is a switch rather than a variable control, so the decision is made while tracking.

5 pin DIN MIDI input and output are fitted, which the SSL 2 does not have. For a setup with a hardware synth or a MIDI controller with DIN sockets, that removes a separate MIDI interface.
