The HD620S is Sennheiser's attempt to bring the presentation of its open reference models into a sealed cup, using a 42 mm driver and holding distortion below 0.05 percent at 1 kHz and 90 dB SPL.

150 ohms, and what drives it
At 150 ohms the HD620S sits between the easily driven HD 569 at 23 ohms and the 300 ohm HD 600, HD 650 and HD 660S2. A good interface output or a portable amplifier drives it properly; a phone will be underpowered at the bottom.

Where a closed back earns its place
Two situations make the closed design the correct choice rather than a compromise. Recording an overdub in the same room as a live microphone, where an open headphone leaks the click and the backing into the take. And listening in a room that is shared, where an open headphone broadcasts to everyone in it.
For mixing in a quiet room, the open HD 600 and HD 660S2 remain the references.
