sE Electronics sE7 Small-Diaphragm Condenser Microphone (Pair)

The sE Electronics sE7 Pair supplies two sE7 small diaphragm cardioid condensers for stereo work. Each is a 1/2 inch back-electret capsule at 19 mV/Pa with 16 dB self noise, a 20 dB pad reaching 156 dB SPL and an 80 Hz low cut.

Why these need to come in twos

Drum overheads, a stereo acoustic guitar capture, a piano pair, an ORTF or XY room pair: every one of these requires two microphones of the same model, because any tonal difference between them shows up as an imbalance between the left and right sides of the recording.

Small diaphragm condensers are the standard choice for all of those positions, because a 1/2 inch capsule tracks the attack of a cymbal or a string more accurately than a larger one.

What each microphone does

Cardioid pattern, 20 Hz to 20 kHz, 19 mV/Pa sensitivity, 16 dB self noise. A 20 dB pad lifts maximum SPL from 136 dB to 156 dB, which covers close cymbal and snare positions. The low cut is 80 Hz at 6 dB per octave.

Each microphone weighs 128 g and terminates in a 3 pin male XLR.
