sE Electronics sE4400a Multipattern Condenser Microphone (Pair)

The sE Electronics sE4400a Pair supplies two multipattern condensers, each with cardioid, hypercardioid, omnidirectional and figure-8 patterns, a one inch gold-sputtered capsule, 10 and 20 dB pads and a switchable low cut.

Four patterns on two microphones

This is the most flexible stereo pair configuration available from a single purchase. Two figure-8 capsules at 90 degrees give Blumlein. A cardioid or omni with a figure-8 gives mid-side, where the stereo width is adjustable after the recording rather than committed during it. Two cardioids give XY or ORTF, and two omnis give a spaced pair with full low frequency extension.

Adding hypercardioid to the set covers the case where the pair must reject a specific direction, such as a monitor wedge or an adjacent instrument.

Hand-crafted one inch gold-sputtered true condenser capsule, 20 Hz to 20 kHz, sensitivity about 25 mV/Pa, self noise 16 dB, signal to noise 78 dB. Pads switch at 10 dB and 20 dB, and a low cut filter is switchable on the body.
