Semi-open, and what that trades

A semi-open design lets some sound pass through the ear cups in both directions. That widens the stereo image and gives a more spacious sound than a closed headphone, which suits mixing and long listening.

The trade is isolation. It leaks sound out and lets room noise in, so it is a poor choice for tracking next to a live microphone or for a noisy environment.

Each ear cup carries a 50 mm dynamic driver with a 38 micron diaphragm and a neodymium magnet. Frequency response runs from 10 Hz to 30 kHz. At 32 ohms with 98 dB sensitivity, the SR850C plays at a useful level from a laptop, phone or interface without a separate headphone amplifier.
