The Roland A-88MKII is an 88 key hammer action MIDI controller with eight illuminated assignable pads, eight illuminated assignable knobs, USB-C and MIDI 2.0 support, only 274 mm deep.
A piano action from a piano maker
The 88 hammer action keys are Roland's own, from a company that builds digital pianos, so the weight and response feel like a piano rather than a synthesizer. For playing piano and orchestral libraries, the action is the part that decides whether a controller is usable.
Controls
Eight RGB lit pads and eight lit knobs are assignable to DAW functions and instrument parameters. A pitch bend and modulation lever, assignable buttons and pedal inputs complete the playing controls. The lighting shows what each control is set to at a glance.
Connection and size
USB-C connects to a computer, with support for MIDI 2.0 for higher resolution control as software adopts it. Five pin MIDI in and out connect hardware synths directly. At 274 mm deep and 119 mm high, it fits on a desk in front of a monitor without dominating it.
