Description
The Roland A-49 is a slim 49 key USB MIDI controller with a full size Roland keyboard action, a D-BEAM controller, two assignable knobs and two assignable buttons, bus powered and weighing 2.5 kg.
A proper keyboard in a portable controller
Most portable controllers cut costs on the keys. The A-49 uses a full size Roland keyboard with rounded key shape and velocity sensitivity, which makes it genuinely playable for piano and synth parts while staying only 182 mm deep and 84 mm high.
Controls
The D-BEAM is an infrared sensor that sends control data as a hand moves above it, useful for filter sweeps or effects without touching anything. Two assignable C1 and C2 knobs and two S1 and S2 buttons map to plugin or DAW parameters. A pitch bend and modulation lever, octave and transpose buttons, and hold and expression pedal inputs cover performance.
Connections and size
USB Type B connects to a computer and powers the keyboard, drawing only 98 mA. A 5 pin MIDI out drives a hardware synth. The controller measures 836 x 182 x 84 mm and weighs 2.5 kg.
