Rode NT55MP Versatile Small-diaphragm Condenser Microphone (Matched Pair)

The Rode NT55MP is an acoustically matched pair of NT55 small diaphragm condensers, each with interchangeable cardioid and omnidirectional capsules, a three position pad and a three position high pass filter.

Two capsules per microphone

Each NT55 comes with a cardioid capsule and an omnidirectional capsule that screw on and off. Cardioid rejects sound from behind, which suits close instrument work and drum overheads in a live room. Omni picks up evenly all round and gives a more natural low end, which suits a good sounding room, a choir or an ensemble.

Changing capsules changes the pattern without buying another pair of microphones.

Figures and controls

Each uses a 1/2 inch gold sputtered capsule. Sensitivity is 16 mV/Pa and self noise is 15 dB SPL. Maximum SPL is 136 dB, rising to 146 or 156 dB with the pad at -10 or -20 dB. The high pass filter offers flat, 75 Hz or 150 Hz. Both require P48 phantom power.

Why a matched pair

Stereo recording needs two microphones that behave identically, or the image leans to one side. The NT55MP pair is acoustically matched for overheads, piano, acoustic guitar and room recording.
