RME Digiface Dante 256-Channel Dante to MADI Audio Interface

The RME Digiface Dante is a 256-channel USB 3.0 interface that bridges Dante and MADI, and keeps working as a 64-channel converter between the two when no computer is attached.

Two networks, one box

Four gigabit Ethernet ports carry Dante, with the largest Dante module fitted so 64 channels can be sent and received over the network, and network redundancy supported. MADI is on coaxial, carrying 64 channels in standard mode, 32 at 96 kHz and 16 at 192 kHz. The word clock BNC can be switched to MADI. Sample rates run 44.1 kHz to 192 kHz.

The MADI input stage is high sensitivity, accepting below 0.2 Vpp, and the MADI output is 400 mVpp. Word clock output reaches 5 Vss.

Standalone conversion

Unplug the computer and the Digiface Dante is still a 64-channel Dante to MADI converter. That matters for an installation where the bridge has to survive a laptop being closed, and it means the same unit can be a studio interface on Monday and a machine room converter on Tuesday. The four Ethernet ports also work as a network switch.

Software and monitoring

TotalMix FX handles routing and monitor mixes, with DigiCheck for metering, TotalMix Remote for control from another machine, and ARC USB support for hardware control. One headphone output is fitted, DC coupled. Class Compliant mode is available for connection to a tablet.
