Presonus FaderPort V2 Production Controller

The PreSonus FaderPort V2 is a single fader control surface built around a 100 mm touch sensitive motorised fader with 10 bit resolution over 1024 steps, with 24 buttons covering 40 functions and a 360 degree push button encoder.

A motorised fader is not a knob with a different shape

Two things follow from motorisation. The fader moves to show existing automation, so what you see matches what the session contains rather than the last position a control was left in. And because it is touch sensitive, touching it can drop the DAW into automation write mode and releasing it can return to read, which is how automation is actually ridden in practice.

Resolution is 10 bit, 1024 steps across 100 mm of travel, which is fine enough that level moves sound continuous rather than stepped.

Twenty four buttons, forty functions

Dedicated solo, mute and record arm buttons sit beside backlit automation mode switches for Touch, Latch, Trim, Write and Read. A large 360 degree push button encoder handles session navigation, scrolling and parameter adjustment.

Having automation modes on dedicated backlit switches rather than in a menu is what makes the difference during a mix: the mode is visible at a glance instead of being something to verify.

One channel at a time

The FaderPort V2 controls one channel at a time, selected from the surface or from the DAW. That suits riding a vocal or writing automation pass by pass rather than mixing several channels simultaneously.

If several faders are needed at once, PreSonus makes multi-fader FaderPort models. The V2 connects over USB and works with Studio One as well as with other DAWs through MCU and HUI.
