The PreSonus Eris Pro Sub 10 is a front-firing active studio subwoofer with a 10 inch composite driver and 170 W RMS of Class AB amplification, covering 20 Hz to 200 Hz at up to 113 dB peak SPL.
Twenty hertz
The quoted low limit of 20 Hz is at the bottom edge of human hearing, and the reason a studio subwoofer reaches for it is not effect but information. Sub bass energy that is inaudible on the main monitors still exists in the file, and it still consumes headroom on a master and still moves a club system. A subwoofer makes it visible.
Maximum output is 113 dB peak at 1 metre, driven by 170 W RMS of Class AB amplification into a 10 inch composite low frequency driver.
Front-firing
The driver fires forward rather than downward. A front-firing subwoofer is less dependent on what it is standing on: a down-firing design couples into the floor, and a suspended wooden floor will contribute its own resonance to what you hear.
Position still matters. Low frequency response in a room varies enormously with placement, so expect to move the subwoofer and measure rather than to set it once.
Integration
Cross the subwoofer over to the main monitors and align the phase, or the overlap region will partially cancel rather than add. That is the single most common reason a studio sounds worse after a subwoofer is installed.
