The PreSonus ATOM is a pad controller with 16 full size velocity and pressure sensitive RGB pads, 20 assignable buttons and four endless rotary knobs, measuring 195 x 202 x 20.75 mm and weighing 1 lb.
Pressure, and what it can be mapped to
The pads respond to velocity and to pressure, and the pressure control is switchable between MIDI aftertouch, channel pressure and continuous controller messages. That last option is the useful one: pressure can be mapped to a filter, a send level or any other CC destination rather than only to aftertouch, which many instruments ignore.
Eight assignable pad banks mean the 16 pads address 128 destinations without remapping.
A pad controller, not a keyboard
Sixteen full size pads with 20 assignable buttons and four endless rotary knobs is a layout built for drum programming, clip launching and step sequencing rather than for playing melodies. If a keybed is needed, the ATOM SQ combines pads with a keyboard-style layout.
The controller connects over USB 2.0 and is bus powered, so it needs no separate supply.

The unit is 195 x 202 x 20.75 mm and weighs 1 lb, so it sits beside a laptop or in a bag with one. Studio One Artist and Ableton Live Lite are included with the controller.
