Neumann TLM67 Large-Diaphragm Condenser Microphone (Pearl Grey/ Nickel)

The Neumann TLM67 uses the K 67 large diaphragm capsule, the same capsule design as the U 67, in a transformerless body with three patterns. It is 56 mm across, 200 mm long and weighs 490 g.

The K 67 capsule

The capsule is the reason this microphone exists. The K 67 is the design at the centre of the U 67 and, in variants, of the U 87, and it is responsible for a great deal of what people mean when they say a recording sounds like a Neumann. The TLM67 puts that capsule in a modern transformerless circuit.

Three patterns are available: omnidirectional, cardioid and figure-8.

Figures by pattern

Sensitivity is 10, 18 and 9 mV/Pa in omni, cardioid and figure-8. Self noise is 16, 11 and 17 dB-A across the same three patterns, so cardioid is both the most sensitive and the quietest, which is the pattern most work will use. Maximum SPL at 5 percent THD is 130, 125 and 131 dB.

Frequency range is 20 Hz to 20 kHz. A switchable pad and a switchable low cut are both fitted.

Where it sits

Against the U 87 Ai, the TLM67 shares the capsule lineage but uses a transformerless output stage. Against the TLM103, it adds two patterns and the K 67 voicing at the cost of self noise, 11 dB-A in cardioid against 7 dB-A.

The body is 56 mm in diameter and 200 mm long at 490 g, in a pearl grey and nickel finish.
