Neumann TLM107 Multipattern Condenser Microphone (Studio Set)

The Neumann TLM107 Studio Set is the TLM 107 multipattern condenser supplied with its elastic suspension. Five patterns, 10 dB-A self noise, 141 dB maximum SPL and 153 dB with the -12 dB pad.

Microphone plus suspension

The Studio Set pairs the microphone with the elastic suspension that isolates it from the stand. Structure-borne noise, footsteps, desk knocks and building vibration reach a rigidly clipped microphone through the stand, and no amount of care at the source removes them afterwards.

For a microphone that will be used on a boom over a drum kit or on a stand in an untreated room, the suspension is a working requirement rather than an accessory.

What the microphone does

Five polar patterns, omni through figure-8, are selected from a single navigation control along with the pad and the low cut. Preattenuation is 0, -6 or -12 dB, giving a maximum SPL of 141 dB at 0.5 percent THD and 153 dB with the full pad. Self noise is 10 dB-A and sensitivity in cardioid is 11 mV/Pa.

The capsule is edge terminated, and the pattern set includes wide cardioid, which is useful on voice at a moderate distance where a cardioid would be too proximity heavy.

Studio Set or the microphone alone

The plain TLM107 listing is the microphone without the suspension, for a buyer who already owns one or is mounting in a fixed position. The Studio Set is the complete package and the usual choice for a new purchase.
