What the elastic suspension does

A microphone on a rigid clip is mechanically coupled to the stand, and through the stand to the floor. Footsteps, a chair, a passing vehicle and the low frequency energy in the room all reach the capsule as structure-borne noise. The EA 1 elastic suspension decouples the microphone from the stand so that path is broken.

On a microphone with 7 dB-A of self noise this matters more than usual. There is no point buying an exceptionally quiet capsule and then feeding it the building's vibration.

The microphone itself

Fixed cardioid, transformerless, covering 20 Hz to 20 kHz with 23 mV/Pa sensitivity and a maximum SPL of 138 dB. There is no pad, no low cut and no pattern switch, which keeps the signal path short.
