Neumann KH80 DSP 4" + 1" Active 2-Way Studio Monitor

The Neumann KH80 DSP is a 2-way active nearfield monitor with a 4 inch woofer on 120 W and a 1 inch tweeter on 70 W, reaching 57 Hz at -3 dB and 108.1 dB SPL at 1 metre, with DSP and IP networking built in.

DSP with a network behind it

The DSP engine is not only a set of dip switches in software. The monitor carries standard IP networking and works with Neumann.Control, which means the response can be aligned to the room and to the other monitors in the system from a computer, and the settings stored.

For a small room where reflections and boundary effects dominate the low end, that alignment is worth more than a larger driver would be.

The waveguide

The tweeter sits in Neumann's Mathematically Modeled Dispersion waveguide. The purpose of a waveguide is to control how sound spreads off axis, so that what reflects off the walls and the desk resembles what arrives directly. That is what keeps the stereo image stable when the listener moves slightly off centre.

Bi-amplification is 120 W to the 4 inch woofer and 70 W to the 1 inch tweeter.

What a 4 inch monitor can do

Bass extends to 57 Hz at -3 dB and maximum SPL is 108.1 dB at 1 metre. Those figures define the honest use case: a nearfield position in a small to medium room, at sensible listening distances. Kick and bass fundamentals below 57 Hz will need either a subwoofer or a reference check on another system.

Each cabinet is 9.1 x 6 x 7.6 inches and weighs 7 lbs 8 oz, and is sold as a single monitor, so a stereo pair means two.
