The M-Audio Oxygen Pro 25 is a 25-key controller with semi-weighted velocity sensitive keys and aftertouch, 16 RGB pads, 8 knobs, one fader and an OLED screen.
Aftertouch on a 25 key controller
Aftertouch is the notable inclusion at this size. Most 25 key controllers omit it, which means any expression after the note has been struck has to come from a wheel or a knob. The Oxygen Pro 25 has it on a semi weighted keybed, so pressure on a held note can be mapped to filter, vibrato or volume.
The single fader is the trade against the larger models: the 49 and 61 both carry nine faders, which is a mixer's worth. At 25 keys there is no room for that, so mixing is done on the knobs.
Pads and screen
Sixteen RGB pads handle drums and clip launching. An OLED screen shows what each control is assigned to, which is what makes eight knobs usable across several plugins without a printed chart.
Smart Chord and Smart Scale are included across the Oxygen Pro range, along with an arpeggiator. On a 25 key instrument Smart Chord earns its place: full chords from single keys make up for the missing octaves.
Standard connections
Pitch and modulation wheels are fitted, along with a 1/4 inch sustain pedal socket, and the controller has DAW and plugin control built in.
For nine faders and a wider playing range, step up to the Oxygen Pro 49 or 61. For something smaller and lighter, the Oxygen Pro Mini has 32 mini keys at just over a kilogram.
