M-Audio AIR 192x8 Desktop 2x4 USB Type-C Audio Interface

The M-Audio AIR 192x8, written AIR 192|8, is a 2 in, 4 out USB-C interface at 24 bit and 192 kHz, with two combo inputs carrying a switchable -10 dB mic pad, two instrument inputs, and both TRS and RCA outputs.

The mic pad is the difference

The two XLR and 1/4 inch balanced combo inputs have a switchable -10 dB pad. That pad is what lets a loud source, a close snare, a guitar cabinet, a singer who moves in, hit the preamp without clipping the front end. The 192x6 has the same input count without it.

Two further 1/4 inch instrument inputs take guitar and bass directly. Two channels record at once.

Four outputs, two formats

Two 1/4 inch TRS balanced outputs feed monitors properly, and four RCA unbalanced outputs are also fitted, which suits a DJ mixer, a second monitor pair or a hardware recorder. One 1/4 inch headphone output has independent source and level control.

A USB and Direct knob balances the input signal against the computer signal for zero latency monitoring while tracking.

Connections and software

USB-C connects the interface, with USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to USB-A cables both supplied. MIDI input and output are fitted for external gear. Resolution is 24 bit at 192 kHz.

The bundle is Ableton Live Lite, MPC Beats, the AIR Creative FX Collection Plus with 28 effects, 80 AIR effect plugins, Strike, Mini Grand, DB-33, Xpand!2, AIR TubeSynth, AIR Electric, AIR Bassline, Revalver and a Touch Loops sample pack.
