Three ways, and why the coaxial midrange matters

A 3-way design splits the work: the woofer handles only the bass, the midrange handles the vocal range, and the tweeter handles the top. Each driver does less, so each distorts less and the monitor keeps more headroom before it strains.

The tweeter sits at the centre of the midrange driver, so the frequencies where most of the music lives come from a single point. That gives a stable, precise stereo image that holds when the listener moves off centre.

Three amplifiers

Each driver has its own amplifier: 60 W for the woofer, 40 W for the midrange and 40 W for the tweeter, 140 W in total per monitor. Response is 45 Hz to 21 kHz within plus or minus 3 dB, extending to 37 Hz and 25 kHz at -10 dB. Maximum SPL is 117 dB, which covers mixing at loud levels without the monitors running out of room.
