Description
The Genelec 8340A is a SAM series 2-way active monitor with a 165 mm woofer and a 19 mm metal dome tweeter, 150 W Class D for each driver, covering 38 Hz to 22 kHz at -6 dB, flat within 1.5 dB from 45 Hz to 20 kHz.
Two SPL figures, both true
Genelec publishes maximum short term SPL of at least 110 dB and maximum peak SPL of at least 118 dB. The short term figure describes sustained loud playback, and the peak figure describes transients such as a snare hit. Compare the short term figure against other monitors' continuous ratings.
Smart Active Monitoring
The 8340A connects to Genelec's GLM software, which measures the room and sets each monitor's level, timing and response for the listening position. Calibration requires GLM with either the 9320A controller or the GLM Calibration Kit, sold separately. Two RJ45 control ports link monitors on the GLM network.
Inputs and size
Inputs are one XLR analog and one XLR AES/EBU digital, with an AES/EBU output for chaining. The monitor measures 365 x 237 x 223 mm on its Iso-Pod stand and weighs 8.4 kg. The 8330A is the smaller 5 inch model reaching 45 Hz.
