Gemini DJX-1000 Professional Headphone

The Gemini DJX-1000 is a closed-back headphone on 53 mm dynamic drivers, wired at 80 ohms for studio and reference listening rather than for running off a phone.

Why the 80 ohm rating matters

Impedance decides what can drive the headphone properly. At 80 ohms the DJX-1000 wants a real headphone output, an interface, a mixer or a headphone amp, and in return it holds its damping and stays composed when the level goes up. Plugged straight into a phone it will play, but quieter and looser than it should. If the headphone will live on a laptop or a controller, the 32 ohm DJX-500 is the better fit.

Driven correctly it reaches 107 dB across 5 Hz to 30 kHz with distortion under 0.1 percent.

Closed back for tracking

The closed design keeps the headphone mix out of an open microphone, which is what makes it usable for overdubs as well as for mixing. The 53 mm driver and copper voice coil handle 30 mW of input power. The headphone weighs 300 g.

Connection

A 5 ft cable ends in a 1/8 inch (3.5 mm) plug, with a 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) adapter in the box for interface and mixer outputs.
