Focal Twin6 2.5-way Powered Studio Monitor Speaker

The Focal Twin6 is a 2.5-way monitor with two 6.5 inch W membrane drivers and a 1 inch beryllium inverted dome tweeter, 2 x 70 W Class G plus 50 W Class AB, covering 40 Hz to 40 kHz at 112 dB peak. It weighs 22 kg.

Two woofers doing different jobs

The 2.5-way arrangement means the two 6.5 inch W membrane drivers are not identical in function. One covers bass and midrange, the other reinforces the bass only. The result is two drivers of low frequency capability without two drivers fighting over the midrange, where the ear is most sensitive to phase and timing errors.

The tweeter is a 1 inch beryllium inverted dome. Beryllium is chosen because it is stiff and light enough to push break-up modes above the audible band.

Focus mode

Focus mode converts the monitor to a full-range single channel covering 110 Hz to 10 kHz. That deliberately restricted view is used to check what survives on a phone, a laptop or a car system, without owning a second pair of small monitors.

In its normal 2-way mode the response is 40 Hz to 40 kHz with a peak SPL of 112 dB at 1 metre.

Connection and size

The input is symmetrical XLR at 10 kOhms. The cabinet is 50 cm wide, 25 cm high and 34 cm deep, weighing 22 kg, and it is designed to sit horizontally.

The Twin6 Be is the higher powered beryllium version with a 1.5 inch tweeter and 2 x 150 W RMS of bass and midrange amplification, reaching 115 dB. For a three way monitor with a dedicated midrange driver, the Trio6 Be reaches 35 Hz.
