Focal Shape Twin Dual 5" 2.5-Way 210W Active Studio Monitor

The Focal Shape Twin is a 2.5-way active monitor with two 5 inch drivers and a 1 inch M-profile aluminium magnesium inverted dome tweeter, driven by three Class AB amplifiers totalling 210 W, covering 40 Hz to 35 kHz at up to 110.5 dB SPL.

Three amplifiers for three sections

Two 80 W Class AB amplifiers drive the low and mid drivers and a 50 W Class AB amplifier drives the tweeter, 210 W in total. In the 2.5-way arrangement the two 5 inch drivers are not doing identical work: one covers bass and midrange, the other reinforces the bass.

That keeps the midrange coming from a single driver, which avoids the interference between two identical drivers covering the same band.

Passive radiators, not a port

Like the rest of the Shape range, the Shape Twin uses passive radiators on the cabinet sides rather than a bass reflex port. The practical consequence is tolerance of imperfect placement: near a wall, a ported cabinet gains an exaggerated low end and can produce port noise, and a passive radiator design does neither to the same degree.

Response is 40 Hz to 35 kHz with a maximum SPL of 110.5 dB.

Against the Shape 65

The Shape 65 is the single 6.5 inch driver model, 105 W total, reaching 109 dB across the same 40 Hz to 35 kHz range. The Shape Twin gains about 1.5 dB of output and the 2.5-way arrangement, in a wider cabinet.

Both use the aluminium magnesium tweeter rather than beryllium. For beryllium and higher output, look at the Twin6 and Trio6 Be.
