The EVE Audio SC204 is a 2-way active nearfield monitor with a 4 inch SilverCone woofer and an RS1 AMT tweeter, driven by two 50 W Class-D amplifiers, covering 64 Hz to 21 kHz at up to 96 dB SPL. It weighs 3.8 kg and is sold singly.
The RS1 AMT tweeter
The SC204 uses the same RS1 Air Motion Transformer tweeter as the larger SC205. An AMT works by folding a very light diaphragm and squeezing air from between the folds, rather than pushing air like a dome. The low moving mass is what gives it its transient response.
Getting the same tweeter as the model above is unusual at this size, and it means the top end of the SC204 and SC205 are directly comparable. The difference between them is at the bottom.
The bottom end, honestly
A 4 inch SilverCone woofer reaches 64 Hz and 96 dB maximum SPL, with 100 W total from two 50 W Class-D amplifiers and a crossover at 3000 Hz. The SC205 with its 5 inch woofer reaches 53 Hz and 101 dB.
Eleven hertz and five decibels is the whole decision. On a small desk in a small room the SC204 is often the better fit, because a monitor that produces more low end than the room can handle creates a problem rather than solving one.
DSP and single-unit sale
The monitor is fully active with DSP handling the crossover, EQ and driver protection. The cabinet is 145 x 230 x 195 mm and weighs 3.8 kg.
