Eve Audio EXO27 Active 2-way Studio Monitor

The EVE Audio EXO27 is a bi-amplified 2-way active monitor with a 6.5 inch, 165 mm coated aluminium woofer and the Precision AirMotion tweeter, driven by two 140 W Class-D amplifiers for 280 W total, covering 41 Hz to 24 kHz at up to 122 dB SPL.

Bi-amplified, 140 W per driver

The 280 W total is split as two Class-D amplifiers of 140 W each, one per driver. Each amplifier is matched to the driver it feeds rather than one amplifier feeding a passive crossover, which is what keeps the tweeter clean while the woofer is working hard.

Maximum SPL is 122 dB, which is a substantial figure and one that a small room cannot use. The EXO27 belongs in a properly sized control room.

The woofer and the tweeter

The woofer is a 6.5 inch, 165 mm cone in coated aluminium, reaching 41 Hz. The tweeter is the EXO Precision AirMotion design with a Guided Directivity Control waveguide, an evolution of EVE's folded ribbon approach, reaching 24 kHz.

An Air Motion Transformer moves air by squeezing it from between the folds of a very light diaphragm rather than pushing it, which is where its transient speed comes from.

Against the EXO28

The EXO28 uses an 8 inch, 200 mm woofer, reaching 37 Hz and 126 dB. Both carry the same 280 W and the same tweeter, so the decision is bass extension and room size again.

If the room is untreated or under about 15 square metres, the EXO25 at 44 Hz is usually the more sensible purchase than either.
