Description
The Dynaudio LYD 48 is a 3-way nearfield monitor with an 8 inch woofer, a 4 inch midrange and a 1 inch soft dome tweeter, each on its own amplifier, covering 32 Hz to 21 kHz and reaching 112 dB for a pair at 1 metre.
Why a dedicated midrange
In a 2-way monitor the woofer covers everything from the bass up to the tweeter, including the vocal range. The LYD 48 gives the midrange its own 4 inch driver, so the woofer only handles the low end and the vocal range comes from a driver sized for it. Voices, guitars and snares stay clearer when the bass is busy.
Three amplifiers
An 80 W amplifier drives the 8 inch woofer, and 50 W amplifiers drive the midrange and the tweeter. Frequency response reaches down to 32 Hz and up to 21 kHz, and a pair reaches 112 dB at 1 metre, enough to judge the full low end without a subwoofer.
Size
Each monitor measures 369 x 234 x 328 mm and weighs 12 kg. It is designed to sit horizontally. For smaller rooms, the LYD-5 is a 2-way design with a 5 inch woofer.
