Bowers & Wilkins Panorama 3 Dolby Atmos Soundbar

The Bowers & Wilkins Panorama 3 is a 3.1.2 channel Dolby Atmos soundbar with 13 drivers and 400 W of amplification, including two 100 mm bass units, so no separate subwoofer is required. It is 1210 mm wide, 65 mm high and weighs 6.5 kg.

Thirteen drivers, and what each set does

Three 19 mm titanium dome tweeters handle the top. Six 50 mm woven glass fibre cones cover bass and midrange. Two more 50 mm woven glass fibre units fire upward as the Atmos height channels. Two 100 mm low profile bass units provide the low end.

Those last two are the reason there is no subwoofer in the box and no requirement to add one. A soundbar with real 100 mm bass drivers behaves differently from one that relies on a wireless sub to produce anything below the midrange.

Atmos, handled discretely

The Panorama 3 decodes Dolby Atmos and Dolby TrueHD, and the height information goes to dedicated upward firing drivers rather than being virtualised. Upward firing height channels reflect off the ceiling, so the effect depends on having a reasonably flat, reflective ceiling at a normal height.

Amplification totals 400 W across the 3.1.2 layout.

Connections

One HDMI eARC connection, one optical digital input on Toslink, one RJ45 Ethernet port and a USB-C port for service use only. eARC is the important one: it carries lossless audio back from a modern television on a single cable.

Streaming covers AirPlay, Spotify Connect and multiroom, with Alexa built in. The bar is 1210 x 140 x 65 mm and weighs 6.5 kg. Wall mounting is possible with the appropriate bracket.
