Height is an acoustic decision, not a furniture one

A stereo speaker images correctly when its tweeter is close to ear height at the listening position. Placed on a sideboard or a shelf, the Formation Duo sits too low or too high, and the stereo image collapses toward whichever surface it is standing on.

These stands were designed by the Bowers & Wilkins acoustic team for this specific speaker, so the height and the mounting are matched to the cabinet rather than approximated.

Why not any stand

Two things separate a designed stand from a generic one. The first is that the mounting interface matches the cabinet, so the speaker is held rather than balanced. The second is decoupling: a speaker rigidly coupled to a floor transmits energy into it, and a floor that vibrates adds its own contribution to what you hear.

A generic stand of roughly the right height does neither of those reliably.

These are made for the Formation Duo. Confirm your speaker model before ordering, since the Formation range includes several cabinets with different mounting arrangements and the Formation Flex, for example, uses a wall bracket instead.
