Audix MB8450 MicroBoom

The Audix MB8450 is the long MicroBoom, an 84 inch (2134 mm) carbon fibre boom carrying the M1250B cardioid condenser, with clutch assembly, 25 ft shielded cable and windscreen included.

Seven feet of carbon fibre

At 84 inches the MB8450 reaches from a ceiling or a rear wall mount out over a full choir or an orchestral section. Carbon fibre is what makes that length practical: a metal boom of the same reach would sag and would be visible from every seat in the room.

For shorter throws the same system is available as the 50 inch MB5050 and the 24 inch MB2450, with the identical microphone and fittings.

The M1250B capsule

Frequency response is 50 Hz to 19 kHz, sensitivity 10 mV/Pa at 1 kHz into 150 ohms, maximum SPL 140 dB or greater, equivalent noise level 21 dBA, signal to noise 73 dB and dynamic range 119 dB. The integrated preamp and RF immunity matter more on a long installed run than on a short one, because the cable itself is the antenna.

The capsule is 54 mm of machined brass weighing 16 g, on a 3 pin mini XLR male connector, running on 18 to 52 V phantom.

Audix lists it for choir, ensemble vocal, theatre and orchestral zone work. Hypercardioid capsules are offered across the MicroBoom range for rooms that need tighter rejection than a cardioid gives.
