Audix f50S Handheld Cardioid Dynamic Microphone with On/Off Switch

The Audix F50S is the F50 cardioid dynamic vocal microphone fitted with a noiseless magnetic on/off switch. The audio path is unchanged: 50 Hz to 16 kHz, 2.5 mV/Pa, 250 ohms, more than 138 dB SPL, in an all metal body.

Why the switch is magnetic

A mechanical switch makes contact noise, and that noise reaches the PA as a click every time a presenter mutes. The F50S uses a magnetic switch instead, so muting and unmuting are silent. In a conference room, a house of worship or a school hall, where microphones are handed between people who are not engineers, that is the difference between a usable mute and one nobody is allowed to touch.

Pattern and response

The cardioid pattern gives better than 20 dB off axis rejection, which is what keeps a monitor wedge behind the microphone out of the channel and lets a small PA run more gain before feedback. Frequency response is 50 Hz to 16 kHz, voiced warm and natural rather than hyped.

Electrical and build

Sensitivity is 2.5 mV/Pa at 1 kHz into 250 ohms, and the capsule takes more than 138 dB SPL. The body is all metal and the microphone carries a three year warranty. For fixed installations where the microphone should always be live, order the plain F50 without the switch.
