Description
The Audix ADX10-FLP is a miniaturised cardioid condenser made for flute, with a clip that attaches to the head joint so the capsule sits at the embouchure hole and travels with the instrument.
Mounted on the flute, not on a stand
The supplied clip attaches to the head joint and holds the capsule at the embouchure hole. A flute player moves, and a stand mounted microphone turns that movement into level changes. Mounting on the instrument fixes the distance, so the level stays put while the player does not have to.
The cardioid pattern is uniformly controlled, which is what isolates the flute from other instruments and vocals on the same stage.
What is in the package
The ADX10-FLP ships with the head joint clip, an 8 ft cable terminating in a mini XLR female connector, and the APS911 phantom power adapter. Phantom power is 9 to 52 V through the supplied pre-amp module. The capsule is modular and threaded, and the body is machined brass with a matte black finish, on high quality shielded cable.
Response
Frequency range is 50 Hz to 18 kHz. On flute the useful part of that is the top: breath noise and key noise sit close to the microphone, so the controlled cardioid pattern and the fixed capsule position matter as much as the response curve for getting a usable channel on a loud stage.
