Yamaha DBR15 Powered Speaker

The Yamaha DBR15 is a 2-way bi-amplified powered speaker with a 15 inch cone and a 1.4 inch diaphragm compression driver, 1000 W of Class-D power and a measured maximum SPL of 132 dB at 1 metre. It weighs 19.3 kg.

The largest box in the DBR range

A 15 inch cone on a 2.5 inch voice coil reaches down to 50 Hz at -10 dB and delivers 132 dB SPL peak. The amplifier is the same 1000 W Class-D module fitted to the DBR12, split 800 W to the low frequency driver and 200 W to the high, with 465 W continuous.

Choose the 15 inch over the 12 inch when the low end has to carry a room without a subwoofer. If a sub is already in the system, the DBR12 is lighter by 3.5 kg and gives up very little.

Coverage and crossover

The constant directivity horn covers 90 degrees horizontally and 60 degrees vertically. The crossover is FIR-X Tuning, a linear phase FIR filter, at 2.1 kHz. A linear phase crossover keeps the timing relationship between the drivers intact through the crossover region, which is audible as a more stable image at the point where the horn takes over.

Connections and control

Input 1 is a combo socket switchable between line and microphone level. Input 2 adds a second combo socket and stereo RCA. An XLR output passes channel 1 through or a mix of both channels onward.

D-CONTOUR presets cover FOH/MAIN and MONITOR use, and a 100 Hz or 120 Hz high pass at 24 dB per octave hands the bottom to a subwoofer. Protection covers clipping, DC fault, thermal and over current, with four speed fan cooling.

Physical

The plastic enclosure measures 455 x 700 x 378 mm with rubber feet at 19.3 kg, with two side handles, a 35 mm pole socket, rigging points at the bottom and rear for M8 eyebolts, and a 50 degree symmetrical monitor angle.
