Arturia BeatStep Pro MIDI/Analog Controller

The Arturia BeatStep Pro holds two monophonic step sequencers and a 16 track drum sequencer, with CV and Gate outputs for the melodic tracks and eight drum gates, in a box of 1.45 kg.

Three sequencers running at once

Two monophonic step sequencers handle melodic parts, each up to 64 steps per sequence. Alongside them a 16 track drum sequencer runs one track per pad. Because all three run together, a bassline, a lead and a full drum pattern can be driven from one unit with nothing else in the chain.

Sixteen projects are stored, each holding 16 x 2 sequences, 16 drum sequences and a controller map, so a set can be built up in advance and recalled.

Voltages that reach real gear

The CV and Gate outputs run 1 volt per octave with 10 volt gates. Each melodic sequencer gets two CV outputs, for pitch and velocity, and one gate output. Eight drum gate outputs trigger analog drum voices or a drum machine's trigger inputs individually.

MIDI in and out are provided through the supplied adaptors, and clock sync supports multiple standards, so the BeatStep Pro can lead or follow a rig containing gear from different eras. USB is class compliant.

Size

The unit measures 415 x 163 x 36 mm and weighs 1.45 kg. For a smaller and simpler controller with one CV output and 16 encoders, the plain BeatStep covers the same ground with a single sequencer.
